Mandalika Tourism Infrastructure Ready to Become World Class

Mandalika is a hidden gem on the Indonesian island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Nature is breathtaking, yet few tourists are aware of it. This Central Lombok Regency resort offers a breathtaking view of the extensive coastline as well as a stunning underwater landscape.

Mandalika’s natural beauty has elevated it to one of the government’s Priority National Tourism Strategic Areas (KSPN). Many visitors claim that Mandalika feels like a new Bali. We expect that a large number of foreign visitors would visit this tourist attraction.

To support this potential, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to invest in Mandalika’s infrastructure. One of them is creating access to the area from Lombok International Airport (BIL). The bypass route is 17 kilometers long and 50 meters wide, with four lanes equipped with walkways and road medians. This unique road will also support the MotoGP international motorcycle racing event, which will be placed in Mandalika in 2022.

Tourism Infrastructure Process

Among the basic infrastructure projects completed were groundwork (pile) for the circuit road body around the 4.3-kilometer circuit, ground enhancement (liquefaction strengthening), and supporting facilities for the Paddock area.

Parallel to the circuit project, development in the East area is also taking place. It includes road network facilities and infrastructure, river normalization, the building of amenity cores, regional gateways, and the construction of mosques in the East area. Furthermore, pure water pipes, unclean water pipelines, and irrigation water pipelines are all ready for construction.

With a contribution of 24 billion rupiahs, the Mandalika area is likely to become the top foreign exchange contributor in the future. Mandalika will also help to create new jobs in the coming year. There are 15,000 hotel workers and 38 thousand individuals working in tourism support.

The PUPR Ministry also intends to assist in the provision of adequate housing for low-income persons (MBR) in Central Lombok Regency through the self-help housing program. The total number of occupants is 200. Later on, the house could be converted into a homestay for travelers interested in experiencing life in rural areas.
