Industry in Indonesia has to respond to the existing demand quickly with good quality. We must use good quality materials, implement safety standards, and applying quality control to make a good quality product. Industry Indonesia must be able to compete in providing the best products compared to imported products.
The Covid-19 pandemic has led to changes in plans for the Country budget. Some sectors stop and focus on health issues. Likewise in the steel, construction, and steel industries experienced a decline in demand. Other countries also experience a decline in demand and also make a decline in production by up to 50%.
Currently, the Country is developing a strategy to increase the use of mild steel. One way is to encourage the use of SNI 8399-2017 for light steel frames and other SNIs for other mild steel products. Secretary-General Gapensi appreciated what business actors and the government have done in improving the national light steel industry. There are still many opportunities we can develop because many innovations had made.
The effort to increase the demand for national light steel is in line with President Joko Widodo’s expectations of how to increase domestic production and national economic recovery during a pandemic.
