Corrosion: How to Avoid It?

10/09/2020 by admin@yahoo.com

Corrosion is a natural process that converts a refined metal into a more chemically stable form such as oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials (usually a metal) by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment. Did you know that steel has a coating that can prevent rust/corrosion? The layer that can help prevent corrosion is aluminum. Aluminum is located on the top layer of steel.

We all know that aluminum and some other materials are powerful enough to resist rust. But, what happens when the layer peels off? Will rust appear on steel? Steel is iron-containing 1% to 2% carbon. Steel is a strong and non-flammable material.

Which should be avoided when using steel

Here are the things you need to do when using steel to avoid corrosion and reduced the strength of steel.

1. Rain and sun

Steel is not recommended to be exposed to direct sunlight and continuously, as well as rain. Extreme weather will reduce the resistance of steel to the corrosion-resistant coating. Corrosion will attack more quickly, so avoid installation during the rainy season.

2. Scratching of the steel surface

When the surface is scratched, the steel will be directly exposed to oxygen and a chemical reaction occurs. The resulting reaction between oxygen and steel is rust. You need to store steel with care.

3. Cement

When exposed to steel, cement dough will produce a chemical reaction that will damage the surface layer of steel. Steel made from zinc will react more quickly when exposed to cement dough. The damaged layer makes steel will rust easily.

4. Acid

Acid solutions are often found in floor and ceramic cleaners. Acidic liquids will be reactive when in contact with steel and damage the coating. Rust will appear faster.

For your steel needs, you can consult and order through trusted distributors. SBU has guaranteed quality products.

Green Building and its Aspect

19/08/2020 by admin@yahoo.com

Green building refers to both a structure and the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle: from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. It requires attention to the aspects of protecting, conserving, reducing the use of natural resources, maintaining the quality of indoor air quality.

The application of the Green Building aspect

1. Shape and Building Orientation

Green buildings generally have a thin building mass, both vertically and horizontally. The design of this building has more opening areas on the east side. It because the light in the afternoon is more hot and dazzling.

2. Shading & Reflectors

Shading light shelf helps to reduce the heat entering the building while still entering light efficiently. The length of shading on the outer side of the light shelf is determined so that sunlight does not dazzle human activities inside. The light that enters and is reflected off the ceiling will not be dazzling but will still be able to provide sufficient light.

3. Lighting System

The lighting system needs to use an intelligent lighting system. The intelligent lighting system can control the panel so the lights are turned off automatically by the sensor. So, saving energy from room lighting will be easy to do.

4. Water Recycling System

The Water Recycling System functions to treat dirty and used water so that it can be reused for flushing toilets or plant watering systems. With this system, the use of clean water can be saved and is an important aspect to support the green building concept.

The main aspects of green building

1. Materials

The materials used for building must be obtained from nature, and be a renewable energy source that is managed sustainably. The durability of proper building materials should be tested, but they still contain elements of recycled materials, reduce waste production, and can be reused or recycled.

2. Energy

To reduce the building’s electricity cost, you need to apply the solar panel. To save energy use, especially lighting and air conditioning, buildings should equip with windows. During the day, you should open the window to reduce electricity consumption. Windows of course can also improve the health and productivity of its occupants. Green buildings must also use energy-efficient lighting, energy-efficient electrical equipment, and renewable energy technologies.

3. Water

You can save water by installing a rainwater catchment system. It can flush plants or flush the toilets using recycle water. You can also use water-efficient appliances and using water-efficient toilets to save water.

4. Health

The use of building materials and furniture must be non-toxic, emission-free, low or non-VOC, and waterproof to prevent germs and other microbes from coming.

Contractor Burden Increases During the Pandemic

19/08/2020 by admin@yahoo.com

The Association of Indonesian National Construction Implementers (Gapensi) stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on increasing the burden on the contractor. It is because they need to adjust operations to predetermined standards. PUPR Minister allows contractors to stop their projects but the company should provide income to their workers.

How Pandemic Affecting the Business

The pandemic will have an impact on businesses including the contractor. One of which is that there are many SOPs that need to be improved. The contractor needs to adjust many procedures, for example updating the rules for using masks for employees. They also need to rearrange and applied health standards for the worker’s barracks. So if the barracks are not sufficient for use as in the pre-pandemic period, the contractor must pay additional costs to meet these various needs.

Contractor and the Business

The construction service sector, as part of the economic sector, has felt a huge impact on the COVID-19 outbreak. Elements of construction implementation such as materials, workers, equipment, transportation, time, and mobility are directly related to the COVID-19 outbreak, which can cause uncertainty.

The fact is that a building construction project in a region has been neglected. It is because the materials and workers were transported from another region. When the pandemic is outbreaking, their transportation mobility was disrupted. It is because due to the implementation of the regional quarantine policy imposed by the leadership in that area.

Operating costs are still running, this is what makes the contractor’s burden even heavier amid the reduced number of projects offered by the government and the private sector. As a result, many contractors are starting to feel incapacitate and choose to vacuum or stop temporarily until conditions getting better.

PUPR Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono, has asked all contractors to guarantee the rights of construction workers. The fact is the construction company so overwhelming to pay salaries. So, the Minister will guarantee it is according to the contract.

Choosing Insulation for Home

19/08/2020 by admin@yahoo.com

What is insulation?

Have you ever thought that the roof you used to worsen the temperature in the room? Yes, the roof can be the cause because the material is able to absorb heat. The heat is transferred to the room below it so that the air temperature rises. So, it makes you feel uncomfortable.

Insulation for home is the installation material that serves to reduce the heat from the roof and make our room cooler. When you install the insulation, it helps to reduce the use of the Air Conditioner (AC), it makes your home more energy-efficient and it also has a function as a soundproof. So here are the advantages if you use insulation:

1. Reducing the use of the cooling system.

2. Save costs

3. Improve the comfort of the occupants.

4. Reduce noise

5. Slow down the air leakage and water vapor transmission.

6. Fireproof

Insulation for Home

There are many types of roof insulation on the market, but here are the top 4 aluminum foil roof insulation, glass wool, rock wool, and bubble foil.  Aluminum foil is commonly used as roof insulation. Aluminum foil effectively protects the building from heat. Bubble foil has almost the same shape as aluminum foil. The most commonly used as home insulation is glass wool and rock wool.

Sometimes we are confused about choosing glass wool or Rockwool. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Glass wool is a soundproofing material made of textured fiber glasses such as wool or fleece. Glass wool has a variant of thickness, around 25mm – 50 mm with a density of 25 g / cm3 – 75 g / cm3. It commonly uses as a soundproofing material as a roll or sheet. The benefit of glass wool is it can absorb heat at affordable prices. The weaknesses are absorbing water which causes moldy and irritation if exposed to the skin.

Rockwool has the same appearance as glass wool but has a higher density of 30 g / cm3 – 100 g / cm3. Rockwool is composed of lightweight mineral fiber products that can absorb sound and heat. The advantage of Rockwool is that it insulates heat and fireproof. But there is a weakness that is easy to fall out and cause irritation if exposed to the skin.

You need to estimate every strength and weakness of each product. Consult with the expert is a good step to get better results.

Now, variations in construction support tools are increasingly diverse. Along with the latest innovations in the world of development, the construction process is becoming increasingly practical. The result is more sturdy so that it can be used in the long run. One of the materials which are quite important for construction is the angle bar.

As the name implies, angle iron is iron formed so that it has a 90-degree angle of the elbow. Its appearance is shaped like the letter L, like a triangle. Typically, the manufacturers are producing the angle bars with a standard length of 6 meters. The angle bar has the processed surface, so it is resistant to erosion, corrosion, and also his building material can last for a very long time. Therefore, the angle bar is very important to protect the edges of the structure.

Angle Bar

Another advantage of the angle bar is termite resistant and weather resistant. In addition, angle bar is used for the following purposes:

– Make a rack-shaped construction filled with heavy items.

– It used for canopy construction as a structural reinforcement.

– It used as a horizontal or vertical structure on a tower such as a water tower, radio tower, or another transmitter tower.

– Support structures for tall buildings such as skyscrapers.

– As a tool to move heavy items from one point to another.

– It used as a structural material for stair frames or door frames

No wonder this angle bar is very much in demand in building materials stores. The more development that runs, the higher the demand.
